Ship and accommodation provision and PFI investment

The Bibby military history goes way back over 100 years, to the Boer War in fact where 'Trooping' services were provided for the soldiers. Since then, we have developed an enviable reputation as a trusted and valued partner to the armed forces, both during times of conflict and peace. During the First World War Bibby provided hospital ships and during the Second World War, Bibby owned the largest troop-carrying vessel of its time. At the Falklands Island Bibby Accommodation Vessels housed troops and recently Bibby (as part of the AWSR consortium) was awarded the largest Naval PFI since the Second World War.

DSDA and Bibby share a vision to synchronise and optimise the defence supply and support chain and aim to provide a best in class, best in value capability.

Strategically aligned, the aims and objectives of Bibby and the DSDA are mutually beneficial, geared towards 'win-win' scenarios. The partnership is based on an open, honest approach focused on long term development with in-built operational excellence flexible enough to implement and deliver step-change benefits. Between all the fancy words and strategic initiatives which are flaunted about within in the defence world, Bibby became involved in a project to 'Squash the hype.' Acknowledging the fact that for integration to be optimised collaboration must take place across the whole supply chain. Cranfield, DSDA, DTMA, Bibby and BAE Systems joined forces and a working party was established. By integrating the supply chain through Public Private Collaboration, it was proved that in excess of 30% savings could be delivered. DSDC Bicester and Bibby are now delivering these benefits.

Our range of movements spans high-value and delicate electronics to wing sections, fuselages and tanks. And our movements are not only confined to road, we also move military equipment by sea via the Roll-on Roll-off (Ro Ro) Ferries.

Bibby activities often feature high security elements set against standard warehousing and distribution environments. Sponsored Reservists / Resettlement placements and training, Career Transition Partnership

Bibby Defence Services has been working with the MoD in a variety of formats for many, many years. Fundamental to providing best quality services are the people we employ and develop. We recognise the value of MoD training but also the gaps that exist due to the different requirements of the commercial market. In conjunction with the Career Transition Partnership, Bibby have developed a number of Logistics related training and transition packages for careers in warehousing and distribution, and merchant marine.

Bibby are a leading advocate of Sponsored Reservists. The Strategic Sealift RO RO Ferries are crewed by Bibby Sponsored Reservists and Bibby have a number of drivers and management personnel who work within the military supply chain. We also support operational military surge requirements and have begun to utilize a joint resource pool to smooth-out demand, helping to better manage peaks and troughs.
