The Bibby Academy is a collection of skills and knowledge development interventions aimed at all levels of the workforce. In addition to providing an on-line training facility and a number of learning centres, Bibby has committed to developing its existing workforce to a minimum of Level 2 NVQ standard. This process has involved putting in place an in-house training team that is able to deliver a high volume, quality programme and has seen 300 people sign up for the initiative with over 150 achieving a full level 2 to date.
Over the next 12 months the Bibby Academy will introduce a Driver and Warehouse Apprentice Scheme. The Apprentices will participate in a structured programme of learning and development that will enable them to progress into Higher Education and become the ‘managers of the future’. Like the rest of our sector Bibby has an aging workforce with the average age of operatives between 45-50. Bibby is working with Government Agencies, Training Providers such as System Group and Universities to provide a recognised career route for employees that will also attract the best talent to its ranks. At the moment the sector has a poor image and does not attract the calibre of individual that is needed if we are to compete on the global stage.
As the UKs leading independent logistics company, Bibby Distribution combines an impressive portfolio of services with a unique business approach, genuine commitment to excellence and unrivalled pride in its people.
Bibby Distribution is a wholly owned subsidiary of the privately owned Bibby Line Group whose Head Office is in 2008's Capital of Culture - Liverpool. The majority of our business is based around long-term partnerships, where we share and develop supply chain strategies to achieve agreed objectives and success. With integrated thinking and focused results-driven people, our logistics solutions guarantee optimal value in ever-changing, dynamic markets.
“We believe Bibby Academy is unique in its forward thinking approach, its partnership network and the fact that it is based within a warehouse and distribution company yet is working to raise the competitiveness of not only itself but also the wider logistics sector and the communities within which it is based.” Said Iain Speak, CEO. “We recognise our people are the key to our success and as such we have developed a workforce development programme that equips us to grasp the opportunities that will present themselves over the coming years. The Bibby Academy is central to this and is able to provide training and development for all staff, from basic to Degree level education. We are delighted that our efforts have been recognised in this Award”.
